About working Power

Advancing a clean energy economy

Our mission is to build wealth and power for people in historically underinvested communities while delivering affordable energy, creating local family-supporting jobs, and reducing harmful pollution.

We partner with community organizations, affordable housing providers, small businesses, and labor organizations to co-develop, finance, and enable community-level ownership of clean energy projects. Working Power projects generate revenue for local partners to scale their work and reinvest back into their communities.

Our story

Working Power grew organically into the organization it is today by responding to the real world problems we faced as local developers trying to serve our community.

Founders Bracken Hendricks and Ian Fischer built a small business called Urban Ingenuity to launch Washington, DC’s first clean energy financing program (DC PACE) and to help start up state and local Green Banks around the country. Through this work, we learned intimately the barriers faced by community groups in building climate resilient infrastructure, from access to capital, to well-designed contracts, to ensuring deep community engagement in project designs. Working Power is our solution to forging healthier, more prosperous communities, without sacrificing voice and power.

Today, Working Power has grown in reach and reputation through deep partnerships with communities and impact investors, based on trust and a track record of results.
