Our Sunset Park Solar project partner UPROSE recently celebrated their 60th anniversary, recognizing the hard work of their team, their biggest wins over the years, and the opportunities on the horizon. At the event, UPROSE honored Working Power with their “Nuestra Gente: Ride or Die Community Partner” award, reflecting the trust-based partnership we have built and the success we achieved together with Sunset Park Solar, New York City’s first community-owned #solar project on the rooftop of the Brooklyn Army Terminal. Check out our case study for more details on this groundbreaking project.
“Anyone who has ever done community work or development knows that it is never a linear path. The thing that stood out about UPROSE was that as we encountered challenges, they kept going, kept working to find a path forward,” says Working Power co-founder and co-executive director Ian Fischer.
UPROSE has been an incredible force advancing a bold and visionary clean energy strategy for Sunset Park. The revenue they generate from this project will be reinvested in the community through a community wealth fund that allows Sunset Park residents to allocate resources to projects based on their priorities, such as funding additional solar initiatives, creating a positive cycle of community-led investment.
We are deeply grateful to partner with UPROSE and look forward to continuing to support expanding Sunset Park’s community-owned clean energy project development. Here’s to the next 60 years of impact and transformation!
