Gallaudet Microgrid
The Gallaudet Microgrid combines 2.5 MW of community solar, a 4.5 MW combined heating, cooling, and power generation system, 1.2 MW of battery storage, and advanced microgrid controls at Gallaudet University in D.C. The system is designed to meet most of the university’s electricity needs through on-site production and allow the campus to remain operational in ‘island mode’ during grid outages.
Urban Ingenuity has supported Gallaudet University throughout the microgrid process, including preliminary feasibility analysis, detailed design, and engineering. It has also served as an owner’s representative to Gallaudet as they launched an RFP for implementation partners. UI has continued to serve in the owner’s representative role during final planning, construction, and commissioning, with project completion in 2024.
